How exactly is the timing of this suspicious? Is it because we have a presidential election in 18 months? Is there a day/month/week this could have happened that would not seem suspicious to you?

Obama will get a well-deserved boost from this. It took balls to green-light an operation across the border into Pakistan.

And the more I think about it, the more I think burial at sea was both appropriate and smart. Where would you rather see him buried? What country would want him? And what possible good can come from giving him an actual gravesite somewhere? Better to dispose of the body expeditiously, without fanfare or chest-beating, and according to Muslim tradition.

I agree...the burial at sea serves as a way of showing the Muslim world that we respect their traditions, also there's the problem of who would actually want the bastard"s stinking corpse:

[--"Finding a country willing to accept the remains of the world's most wanted terrorist would have been difficult," a US official said. "So the US decided to bury him at sea." The burial reportedly took place from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the North Arabian sea.

Senior US officials told news agencies that his body would be disposed of in accordance with Islamic tradition, which involves ritual washing, shrouding and burial within 24 hours.--]

I believe both words "optimistic" and "truth" were stated before evidence. And, perhaps the images of the dead Hussein family members, and JFK years back in the media set an expectation. If the intelligence was available last August, therefore timing is suspicious, yes?

I'm sure that Asif Ali Zardari and the other Pakistani leader's heads are reeling after the U.S. entered their airspace unannounced performing a military operation on a private property only to inform them after the fact.

Whether or not UBL was taken out last evening, or exactly when, we'll probably never know for certain. However one of the positive ramification's of this event is the grand and well deserved "fuck-you!" to a sleazy and corrupt Pakistani Government.

The billions of dollars the U.S. has poured into Pakistan in a "so-called" co-operative effort towards a non-Taliban Afghanistan has always been circumspect.

The recent upsurge of violence in Afghanistan is based out of Pakistan, and how Pakistan’s effort in stopping the training, the financial backing, the supply of equipment to terrorists is stopgap at best.

Pakistan's (nuclear backed) military due to it's massive size and strength should be more supportive and co-operative towards a non-Taliban Afghanistan instead of protecting their primary objective which is their religious opposition and hatred of India.

Ironically, it was the U.S. who supported the Taliban in it's efforts to oust Russia in Afghanistan decades ago.

And yes, once again, the solutions of the past have become the problems of the future.

Thanks for weighing in.

True enough, conspiracy nuts might see something suspicious in the timing. What I see however, is a determined and meticulous President, and his direct commands, making absolutely certain of their mission and carefully evaluating all options, rehearsing diligently, preparing for all contingencies, limiting collateral, etc. ( One chopper failed and was destroyed on the ground... no problem!! ) This is truly, with certainty, Mission Accomplished.

Agree with all your assertions re: Pakistan. It's a sinkhole for our tax dollars. Indeed, "the solutions of the past have become the problems of the future."

Now back to the music...
